Suit Club

Suit Club LLC has been founded by two Cornell MBA graduates, Vik Daswani and Kanchan Daswani, a unique brother sister team further expanding the New York City market of their father’s business. In partnership with their father, Kishore Daswani, this entrepreneurial team is a combination of two generations and encompasses 46 years of industry experience, wisdom, and success, along with fresh new ideas and years of leadership experience with Fortune 500 companies.

Kishore Daswani started his custom menswear business in partnership with his brother, Sunder Daswani, in 1969. Together, both brothers have built a business serving thousands of corporate executives and professional athletes across the US and Canada, with a strong focus in the New York, New Jersey, and Washington DC markets.

Vik Daswani has 7 years of experience in strategy and management consulting and has held key leadership positions at Accenture and West Monroe Partners. Vik received his MBA from Cornell University in 2013. “The New York market is an under-served market for luxury bespoke clothing at reasonable prices. Although there is tough competition in the men’s clothing industry, I believe that strategically positioning Suit Club prices below market value, while still providing superior quality, service, fit, and a unique shopping experience, is a recipe for success.”

Beyond Bespoke was founded 11 years ago in Midtown Manhattan by Nick Torres, a third-generation tailor.
Today, Mr. Torres employs a staff of 13 master tailors, all with at least a quarter-century of experience, as well as
a seamstress. Together, they dress refined men according to time-honored standards in an ever-accelerating culture, whether it be in their Midtown studio or their clients’ offices or homes. A bespoke suit is designed with only its owner in mind. The process of creating it, however long-established, should be every bit as accommodating.

Kozinn Tailors

Kozinn+Sons Merchant Tailors was founded in 1913 by Samuel Kozinn, a Jewish immigrant from Poland whose mother tongue was Yiddish. Samuel’s first garments were trousers manufactured in the now-fashionable Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. The name of the business in those days was, “The Independent Trouser Company, Inc.”

Samuel’s son, Murray, joined the company in 1929. Production was expanded to include complete suits and the operation was moved to Manhattan. The name of the company was changed again to “The Dependable Clothing Company.”

During World War II, Saint Laurie manufactured army officers’ uniforms. After the war, the company became one of the foremost proponents of the “Ivy League look,” which replaced the broad-shouldered silhouette of the 1940s with a more natural-shouldered, cultivated design.

In 1951, the name of the business was again changed to “Saint Laurie Ltd,” which seemed more appropriate for the upscale nature of the product which was being made. During this period Saint Laurie was wholesaling its garments to fine men’s specialty stores throughout the country.

The cultural revolution of late 1960s had a dramatic impact on the men’s clothing industry and Saint Laurie. The smaller specialty stores began to disappear due to a combination of fashion turmoil (the Nehru and leisure suits, for example), owner fatigue, and store consolidation. The family saw a future in direct sales to consumers right from their New York City workrooms. Andrew Kozinn, Murray’s son, joined the business in 1976 after graduating from Northwestern University and Brooklyn Law School. Under his leadership, the family business expanded its custom department, introduced custom shirts and started a division devoted to theatrical tailoring.

Bespoke Ensemble NYC

Suits, sport coats, trousers and shirts sold in stores are not made for any particular person, they are made to fit a mannequin. If you are the same size as the form that’s used for a standard suit, then you are fortunate. But many of us are not a standard size; one arm may be longer than the other, if they work out they may have more “drop” between chest and waistline than the so-called “standard”, or for other reasons they might be hard to fit. Instead of attempting to alter a suit made for a mannequin to fit you, try a custom suit that’s made just for you by Bespoke Ensemble NYC; that has everything you want in your clothes and fits you perfectly.

With custom clothing, you can have everything you want! Do you like to have a small “ticket” pocket in your suit jacket? Done! How about a small pocket for a pen and pencil inside the coat? Done! What sort of pleats would you like on the trousers? Done! Or would you like them to advise on the best styles for you? they can give honest advice because they can make any style and any feature. They won’t sell you a garment that’s already made for someone else. Bespoke Ensemble NYC is an expert who can advise you on U.S. & European fashions, and their tailors can put any chosen features into your clothes.

LS Tailors

L&S Custom Tailors is located at 138 East 61st Street; they are proud to be New York City’s favorite custom tailors for more than 40 years. Owner and Master tailor Salvatore Cristiano fell in love with tailoring at the age of 12, when he was taught the skill in his small town of Montelepre in Sicily, Italy. The Idea of taking basic fabric and turning it into beautiful clothing spoke to Salvatore’s soul and when he moved to New York at the age of 16, he was ready to begin working. By 20, he had opened L&S Custom Tailors at the same Upper East Side location they currently inhabit. Much has changed in the past 41 years. For example, when L&S Custom Tailors first opened, it occupied just 400 square feet and now they have a larger facility with 9 tailors. In the beginning, they only offered alterations and repairs. Now L & S offers a full menu of services, including a wide range of custom and unique ideas. L&S produces the finest tailor-made clothing ranging from custom suits, custom shirts, outwear, formal wear, topcoats, skirts, dresses and accessories. Salvatore never believed in advertising and instead relied on word-of-mouth referrals, which he believes are the best kind. Today, his son Carl Cristiano runs the day-to-day operations of the business. He manages everything from customer fittings to order preparation and supervision, all the way through to completion of garments.

Balani Custom Clothiers

n 1953, Peter Balani set out to master the art of crafting custom clothing. He traveled the globe, establishing relationships with some of the top European fabric mills.

In 1961, he founded BALANI Custom Clothiers in Chicago, serving a small group of dedicated clients. Despite many obstacles, he would successfully run it for the next 40 years.

When Sonny Balani turned 16, his father proudly asked him to join the family business. Like many teenagers, he quickly shut him down, insisting he would pave his own path with a career in finance.

Undeterred, 10 years later, Peter asked his son again. With years of corporate experience now behind him, Sonny finally recognized the significance of this opportunity. This was a chance to modernize custom clothing, enhance the customer experience, and expand nationwide.

The Tailory New York

The Tailory New York is an appointment only custom clothing company that combines the modernity of Fashion Design with the heritage art of Custom Tailoring. They are unique in that they cater to both the Men and Women market.

A Note From the Founder

The idea for The Tailory New York began when he decided to direct my years of fashion design and men’s tailoring experience towards his own wardrobe. As a pant suit aficionado and a lover of men’s fashion and tailoring, He was always drawn to tailored clothing and strived to create fashion that conveyed the same message of confidence that a perfectly custom tailored suit did for men. Style icons like Sean Connery and Cary Grant, as well as modern day 007 Daniel Craig (shaken not stirred) were always my style inspirations. To him, they are the epitome of refinement and sophistication, true gentlemen in style. His passion for fashion and tailoring led me through the Fashion Design program at Parsons followed by stints in custom tailoring, fashion design, fashion styling and brand development. But the more he integrated myself in the industry, the more he realized that impeccable fit, for men and women, was almost impossible to find in ready to wear clothing. So, he launched The Tailory New York, a way for him to combine my two passions, Fashion Design and Custom Tailoring. Everyone wants to look their best and having a wardrobe curated to your body and lifestyle not only enables you to look your best but makes you feel your best. At The Tailory New York, “they believe that your wardrobe should not only fit perfectly, but should be designed with only YOU in mind.” Providing personally designed, fitted and curated collections for each individual client is the essence of who they are.

Bindle And Keep

Bindle & Keep: An Uncommon Thread: Their name is an idea, a goal. The bindlestick belongs to the traveler, the seeker for whom the world is forever in motion, forever ahead. Their “keep” is their home, their destination, the place where their bindle may be laid aside. Like their clients, they are moving forward, lighting out for the very frontiers that will one day become our home. They believe that the road rises to meet us both; together, we’ll explore its twists and turns, threading their way to a future that fits as well their suits.

Heights Kenchi

Established in 2009.

Originally started as a men’s tailored shirt company, The Designers would personally accommodate everyone’s busy lifestyle to take each client’s measurements at the location of their choosing, always ending up in a great conversation, an exchange of ideas and always laughs shared. They decided to expand and open up a small shop which would embody the feel of the brand and named it The Standing Room by HEIGHTS+KENCHI.

Located in  Manhattans East Village the location was chosen for it seclusion.  After their Haberdashery opened their clients would comedown to get measured and sometimes just hang out.  The decor is reminiscent of Haberdashery in the 1920’s & 30’s. Everything from floor to ceiling has a story which the designers are more then happy to share with you.

Enzo Custom

Enzo Custom is a vertically integrated company. We’ve made significant investment in the manufacturing process – significantly reducing production costs and allowing for rigorous, uncompromising quality control. As a result of our deep relationships with luxury houses (such as Zegna and Loro Piana), we purchase these fabrics in bulk, directly from the source – allowing us to provide our clients with the highest quality products at ultra-competitive prices. We have also developed our own proprietary fabrics to further bring outstanding quality, selection, and savings to our clients.
Most custom shops receive their garments from a trading company or from the manufacturing facility. Generally, trading companies are utilized by shops who haven’t achieved the economy of scale to buy directly from a factory. With a middleman in place, this shop will need to pay more and pass the costs on to you, the customer. Larger custom shops, ones that can go factory direct, may still be constrained by the limited quality control and efficiency of their production facility. Because Enzo is an integral part of the manufacturing process, we personally guarantee our own quality control and the consistency of our garments.
Storing cloth is almost entirely done by fabric distributors and trading companies. Most other custom shops purchase their fabrics from these sources for an up-to-date inventory of fabrics. Enzo is a custom shop and a wholesale fabric distributor. We buy our cloth directly from mills all over the world and supply over 100 other custom shops worldwide. In other words, our collections are always from the cutting edge of the fashion industry.
Other custom shops are either located in expensive retail space or use costly marketing techniques to draw in their customers. Enzo is permanently located in commercial office space and spends little to no money on advertising. We rely on our customer’s positive experience to draw in our clientele. Sure, it’s an innovative and bold approach – but it’s worked so far.

Armed with a push cart and insurmountable determination, Samuel Beckenstein laid the groundwork in 1919, on the Lower East Side’s historic Orchard Street for what would ultimately develop into one of the world’s most renowned fabric enterprises, Beckenstein Men’s Fabric, Inc.

Nearly a century and four generations later, Beckenstein’s grandsons, Neal Boyarsky, President and CEO of the firm and his son Jonathan, have expanded and transformed the once modest, one room store, into an unstoppable fabric enterprise, servicing the entertainment industry, celebrities, athletes and government officials worldwide.

The company’s success is not only attributed to the family’s unwavering commitment to the fabric industry, but it is also due to their exclusive, joint partnership with Scabel of Brussels, one of the world’s most distinguished fashion leaders, who manufacture the finest and most high end fabrics. In addition to the incomparable quality and endless variety of fabric that Beckenstein Men’s Fabric, Inc. offers, the company also provides their customers with unrivaled service, delivering stock fabric overnight.

Miller’s Oath

Loosely inspired by their great grandfather’s store in South Dakota that sold mining supplies and bespoke suits in 1906, they opened Miller’s Oath almost a century later as an oath to keep the tradition of handcrafted suits and craftsmanship alive.

Now located in the heart of New York City’s Hudson Square and a pleasant walk away from Soho, Miller’s Oath is a bespoke tailor and men’s ready-to-wear clothing store that offers suits, shirts, pants, jeans and accessories made in the USA.

With an artisanal approach to tailoring, each Miller’s Oath piece is crafted with the same attitude and hard work as our pick axe logo implies. Their design is a modernization of traditional American clothing – subtle details from the semi-roped shoulder, high armhole, ticket pocket and front cutaway create the Miller’s Oath aesthetic, a timeless silhouette that is as distinctive as it is sophisticated.

They are Mr. & Mrs. Wilcox, the British Expats, who back in 2005 created Lord Willy’s, a New York City men’s clothing store with a very simple philosophy. Classic English tailoring, with a playful twist.

Almost immediately the store was named “Best store for Dandies” by New York Magazine. GQ magazine announced “New York’s newest outpost for British style” and included them in their GQ100 (best 100 men’s stores in America) along with Esquire magazine who also picked up the scent and named us No. 5 on their list of America’s best stores in their “Big Black Book”.

Over a decade later, Lord Willy’s is now “quietly” recognized the world over. And not just by the press, but more importantly by discerning gentlemen that appreciate beautifully made, contemporary clothing and refreshingly personable service.

When Mr. Rothman died in 1985, his grandson Ken Giddon reopened the store at the northeast corner of Union Square as Rothmans, selling suits at full price, but none that were too extravagant.

Façonnable is a high-end men’s and women’s clothing brand founded in Nice, France by Jean Goldberg in 1950. It is currently owned by M1 Group holding company of Beirut, Lebanon.

The first shop, situated in rue Paradis in Nice, was opened by French master tailor, Jean Goldberg . The store was frequented by film stars in need of bespoke tuxedos and gowns for events such as the annual Cannes Film Festival.

Jean Goldberg’s store gained great notoriety across the French Riviera, dressing stars of the era such as Tony Curtis and Cary Grant in Goldberg’s unique style of classic tailoring with a modern twist. In 1961 Goldberg retired, his son Albert Goldberg took over the Nice workshop.

Albert Goldberg learnt the art of cutting and finishing. He created a new fashion footprint shifting it to the prêt-à-porter (ready to wear) market. After a visit to New York’s Brooks Brothers store, Albert Goldberg produced a collection of ready to wear outfits for men and renamed the business ‘Façonnable’, a variation of the word “Façonner” (English: “to create”).

In 1973, boutiques were opened along the Cote d’Azur in Monte Carlo, Cannes, Saint-Tropez, and in Marseilles. Throughout the 1970s, Goldberg began to collaborate with large American and European companies such as Sebago, Alden and Van’s to create a shoe collection. In 1975, Albert Goldberg worked with Loro Piana, the duo creating “Façorain”, an invisible membrane allowing cashmeres and luxury wools to be wind and waterproof whilst retaining their texture and breathability.

Etro is an Italian fashion house founded in 1968. The label remains a family business, with the founder’s children in executive positions with the company. Etro produces a menswear and womenswear line, in addition to accessories, fragrances, and other home products. The company is best known for its paisley patterned designs, which it began producing in 1981.

Etro was founded in 1968 by Gerolamo “Gimmo” Etro as a textile design company. The main stylistic driver for Etro over its first decades was the paisley pattern, and variations on this theme. The company’s headquarters is located in Milan on Via Spartaco, and was refurbished in 1977. The headquarters includes textile art archived in their in-house library. Future textiles head Jacopo Etro later commented on this period, stating that he had started to visit the archive when he was a child, spending many hours copying the fabric designs and experimenting with his own creative style. After a trip to India made by Etro executives, the furnishing textiles line made its debut in 1981. The “swirling” paisley design found on this trip is now “synonymous” with the label according to Elle Magazine.

Chanel S.A. is a French, privately held company owned by Jennifer pasca /Alain and Gérard Wertheimer, grandsons of Pierre Wertheimer, who was an early business partner of the couturière Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. Chanel S.A. is a high fashion house that specializes in haute couture and ready-to-wear clothes, luxury goods and fashion accessories. In her youth, Gabrielle Chanel gained the nickname Coco from her time as a chanteuse. As a fashion designer, Coco Chanel catered to women’s taste for elegance in dress, with blouses and suits, trousers and dresses, and jewellry (gemstone and bijouterie) of simple design, that replaced the opulent, over-designed, and constrictive clothes and accessories of 19th-century fashion. The Chanel product brands have been personified by fashion models and actresses, including Inès de La Fressange, Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, Vanessa Paradis, Nicole Kidman, Anna Mouglalis, Audrey Tautou, Keira Knightley and Marilyn Monroe.

The House of Chanel is known for the “little black dress”, the perfume No. 5 de Chanel, and the Chanel Suit. Chanel’s use of jersey fabric produced garments that were comfortable and affordable. Chanel revolutionized fashion — high fashion (haute couture) and everyday fashion (prêt-à-porter) — by replacing structured-silhouettes, based upon the corset and the bodice, with garments that were functional and at the same time flattering to the woman’s figure.

In the 1920s, the simple-line designs of Chanel couture made popular the “flat-chested” fashions that were the opposite of the hourglass-figure achieved by the fashions of the late 19th century — the Belle Époque of France (ca. 1890–1914), and the British Edwardian era (ca. 1901–1919). Chanel used colors traditionally associated with masculinity in Europe, such as grey and navy blue, to denote feminine boldness of character. The clothes of the House of Chanel featured quilted fabric and leather trimmings; the quilted construction reinforces the fabric, the design and the finish, producing a garment that maintains its form and function while being worn. An example of such haute couture techniques is the woolen Chanel suit — a knee-length skirt and a cardigan-style jacket, trimmed and decorated with black embroidery and gold-coloured buttons. The complementary accessories were two-tone pump shoes and jewellry, usually a necklace of pearls, and a leather handbag.

Duncan Quinn

Some might say Duncan Quinn is responsible for the resurgence of men’s tailoring in the USA.  He’s been curating lives and style since he opened his first eponymous atelier in New York City in 2003.

Renowned for explaining the ins and outs of Bespoke to inquiring minds he curates the wardrobes and lifestyles of gentlemen and rogues all over the world.

He’s also been known to throw the occasional party, indulge in the odd cheeky lunch, drive too fast and enjoy life just a little too much in the company of his friends.

Although Duncan hails from London, his view of the world was heavily influenced by years spent learning about food, wine and life in the south of France.

Custom Men

If you’re the kind of man who knows exactly what he wants, chances are most off-the-rack suits make you hate shopping. While a jacket may fit on the chest, it’s often either too big or too tight on the waist. If a shirt fits around the neck, it’s either too big or too tight around the rest of the body. And, if the pants fit around the waist, they may be too long or too baggy around thighs and knees. Chances are you won’t find what you’re looking for because off-the-rack clothing is mass produced; finding a perfect is impossible and finding your favorite style is yet a another challenge.

Since 1989, the team at David August has skillfully crafted the finest custom men’s wardrobes in the world. Led by Founder, Creative Director and Chief Executive Officer David August Heil, we provide tailor-made suits and casual wear for the most distinguished of business leaders, sports professionals and entertainers.

LS men clothing

LS Men’s Clothing’s modest beginnings date back to 1954, as a family run business. They were one of the original discounters of fine ready-made men’s clothing from such houses as Oxxford, Hickey Freeman, Southwick and Kilgore, French, and Stanbury to name a few. These were suits that were featured only in the finest department stores and Madison Avenue haberdashers. Custom men’s clothing was the exception rather than the rule, and was available only to the select few who could afford the luxury.

Over the years, as technology in every industry progressed, the manufacturing of suits became more computerized, sophisticated and efficient. LS realized the potential this would have for the custom and made-to-measure industry. Thirty-five years ago, they began incorporating custom and made-to-measure suits, sport coats, and trousers into their services.  They are proud that they were at the forefront of recognizing that by matching modern technology with old world tailoring they would be able to put their long and good standing relationships with local artisans to use by making custom tailoring affordable.

Black Lapel

Founded in 2012 by Derek Tian & Warren Liao

Some people told them, they couldn’t sell custom clothing online. Some told them they were exaggerating a problem and that most men don’t care about how they dress. They listened carefully and they respectfully disagreed.

They traveled the world searching for luxury fabrics, tasteful designs, and expert craftsmanship while keeping their prices affordable. You’ll always get an incredible value with every piece of clothing.

And of course, all that quality wouldn’t be worth a cent unless it fits you just right. They promise their custom clothes will do just that and their stylists will hold your hand every step of the way.

Impeccable style is the destination. Let The Compass be your guide. The Compass, Black Lapel’s style journal, gives you a steady supply of advice and direction on how to always look your best.

A Suit That Fits

When David and Warren Bennett were at school together, little did they know where their mutual passion for dressing well would eventually lead. It is a passion that led us to found A Suit That Fits after Warren was lucky enough to be introduced to a fantastic family of tailors by the school where he was volunteering back in 2005.

He remained friends with my tailors following what was the first few of many, many tailored suits from them, and when he returned to the UK he anticipated bringing their amazing suits to family and friends. It was when he met up with David that together they hatched the idea of putting his experience online and creating the World’s Local Tailor. To trial the idea, they took a stand on Hampsted Market, in London, and within 20 minutes of the doors opening, they had sold their first 2 suits. Over the next 24 hours they unveiled the first version of asuitthatfits.com, it could just about build a suit and they were in business!

They rented their first studio in London using money loaned on a credit card, and David continued to work two jobs for the first six months to help get them started. Today, their software administers over 40 Billion different style options for their wonderful customers all over the world, they have over 30 studios in the UK and their tailors in Nepal have produced enough suits to fill a baseball stadium!

Since founding the company in 2006 when they took their first order, it has been their ambition to spread affordable tailoring and great style and around the world.

Hall Madden

In 2007, founders Richard Hall and McGregor Madden worked with “fast fashion” retailers and legacy brands that focused on speed and cost cutting – business principles that Hall and Madden understood, but didn’t personally agree with for building a modern company. With both experience in manufacturing and a love for menswear, Hall and Madden wanted to build a menswear brand focused around the customer – an experience that was simple and informative with high-quality products.

Mastering the suit was the first Hall Madden goal, a process that took 7 years to fully complete. The suit is a difficult product to manufacture and the United States is notorious for people wearing bad suits. Hall and Madden’s immediate goal became introducing the U.S. customer to a “Proper Suit” – one that was made and fitted the right way.

Tailor Cooperative

Born out of frustration, and driven by passion, the founders set out to make a better suit.

Finding the right suit is difficult. Big-box retailers just can’t seem to offer the right fit. Suit salespeople are pushy.

When it comes to quality, most suits are mass-manufactured and cut to a templated pattern that fits seemingly no one. Even suits that cost a fortune can leave much to be desired: polyester fabrics, plastic buttons, heavy shoulder pads, no canvassing.

Tailor cooperative offers fabric options, and over 500+ suit customizations. They also have 30+ body measurements.

Elegant Custom Tailoring

Umberto Migliaccio was born in a small town twenty minutes outside of Napoli city in Italy. At a very young age Umberto began his apprenticeship to become a Master Tailor. After many years of learning this masterful art, he started making bespoke suits out of his parent’s home for locals in his town and surrounding area. Looking for better opportunities Umberto decided to leave his family behind and immigrate to Canada.

In 1982 Umberto would open Umberto Custom Tailors Ltd. It took time for Umberto to create a name for himself in the city’s downtown, he would have to settle doing alterations with his wife Maria by his side. Umberto’s first bespoke client in his new store would be difficult, he told Umberto he would give him a shot if he could have the suit completed in three days for an event. Umberto never being one to refuse a client, gave the client his word that the suit would be ready in three days. Working day and night with Maria helping him, Umberto completed the suit. Not only did Umberto complete the suit, the client still has suits made by Umberto Custom Tailors thirty plus years later.

The Company was founded in 1977 by Martin Greenfield when he bought the factory from his former employer, GGG Clothes. Mr. Greenfield had joined GGG in 1947 as an entry-level floor boy, ultimately rising to Vice President of Production before buying out his former employer.

Initially structured as a traditional manufacturer; currently, Martin Greenfield Clothiers is focused on a hybrid approach. They hand craft the finest made-to-order as well as made-to-measure suits, tuxedoes, sport jackets, slacks, and overcoats 100% built by hand in their Brooklyn Factory.

Martin’s sons Jay and Tod Greenfield joined their father in the 1980s and the trio currently manages the Company. They keep their focus on production, not promotion, creating garments with built in intrinsic value.  Martin Greenfield Clothiers continues to operate as a union shop out of its 1917 location in Brooklyn. Brooklyn Tailors

Brooklyn Tailors was founded in 2007 by husband and wife, Daniel and Brenna Lewis, when they began offering custom fittings out of their small Clinton Hill apartment. Word spread quickly beyond their initial customer base of friends and locals, and Brooklyn Tailors soon found itself an enthusiastic following around the country.

In August 2011, Brooklyn Tailors moved into its first storefront location at 358 Grand Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In early 2012, Brooklyn Tailors presented its first comprehensive men’s collection, comprised of pieces ranging from tailored formal wear to casual sportswear. The collection is now carried in a number of retailers in the United States and abroad, including Barneys.

GQ Magazine named Brooklyn Tailors “Best New Menswear Designers of the Year” in 2014, and they launched a capsule collection with the GAP that October, which quickly sold out.

The popularity of Brooklyn Tailors in Japan allowed the brand to create a special made-in-Japan line sold only in the Japanese market and the Brooklyn Tailors store. This collection, called BKT by Brooklyn Tailors, focuses on casual but office-ready pieces, including unstructured travel suits and Japanese oxfords. The collection launched in 2015.

In August 2016, Brooklyn Tailors opened its new flagship store at 327 Grand St. in Williamsburg, just up the block from the original store. The new expanded shop and headquarters allows Brooklyn Tailors to showcase its full collection and introduce new products. Additionally, with the new expanded retail location, Brooklyn Tailors now also carries a curated selection of other brands, including knitwear, t-shirts, shoes, ties, accessories, apothecary goods, as well as a selection of suiting and shirts from other brands that the Brooklyn Tailors team loves.

Robinson Brooklyn

Modeled after a traditional haberdashery, ROBINSON BROOKLYN specializes in essential, handmade items that can’t be found anywhere else. The shop in Williamsburg, New York offers Ready-to-Wear items (suits, sport coats, trousers, ties and other accessories) defined by Robinson’s dedication to quality: handcrafted items with clean and simple lines that are built to last. Drawing on the finest imported materials, the shop features Robinson’s signature take on “classic items you always wished you had”. Native New Mexican Craig Robinson started his sartorial life at the very young age of 8. “My mother and aunt worked in the Levi Strauss factory on the outskirts of town, and a lot of patchwork garments were made on the kitchen table from the scraps my mother would bring home from work. This is where I began to learn the skills for construction”.

Robinson went on to open his first store on Route 66 in 1992 at the age of 20 in Albuquerque New Mexico. In 1995 Robinson moved to New York. While fine-tuning his craft of fine tailoring, he also worked in a hat shop, blocking and trimming custom hats.

He spent some time in Italy working as a floor boy for a couple of summers in a suit factory. There he learned that it takes thousands of hours to learn how to construct a classic Jacket, and takes years to master. Upon his return to New York he apprenticed under Master Tailor Ernesto De Soriano.

In 1998 he opened the door to his Atelier on 5th Ave in the Flat Iron district, creating superior handmade, custom and Made-to-Measure suiting for a host of popular musicians such as Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, and Peter Bjorn and John. Robinson had also outfitted celebrities such as William Defoe, and Morgan Freeman. The hallmarks of his suits are sharp, masculine lines that exude power and deliver an aura that’s equal parts sexy and dangerous. Robinson’s dedication to his craft was recognized in 2007 when his work was inducted into Victoria and Albert Museum for the New York Fashion Exhibit. Robinson continues the centuries-old tradition of fine tailoring in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in New York with attention to quality and craftsmanship.

David Reeves is the creator and proprietor of REEVES.

Originally from a working-class town outside of Manchester in the North of England, David was never satisfied with the ordinary. Inspired by a Modernist ethos, David began getting his own suits custom made for himself as a teenager. As a young Graphic Arts student in Leeds, David was quickly swept up by the world of fine tailoring joining the Savile Row house Gieves & Hawkes at the age of 19.

Over the next 11 years David stayed in the business making his way up in the world of tailoring and fashion. He worked for many influential names in the UK and U.S.A such as Richard James of Savile Row, Prada, Commes Des Garcons and Timothy Everest. His roles where always client facing and he was entrusted to deal with many high profile clients including two British Prime Ministers, members of the English Aristocracy, and “Pop Royalty” such as Elton John, Bryan Ferry, Nick Cave and Paul McCartney.

In 2007 at the age of 30 he decided to establish his own business in New York.

Reeves is a small business that produces around 300 Bespoke suits per year, they are focused on quality Bespoke work exclusively, so they do not offer Made to Measure (MTM), shirts or accessories, rather they simply strive to make the finest Bespoke suits anywhere in the world. To this end David Reeves searches out and works with the very best cutters, tailors and finishers locally in NYC holding them to exceptionally high standards of production not often seen in the modern world. His fabrics and materials used are always the very best with “standard” cloths being high end cloths such as Loro Piana Tasmanian, Zegna Trofeo and Dormeuil Amadeus.

David has an extremely hands-on approach with his team and clients, he is involved in every aspect of production and works to form a longstanding relationship with every one of his clients.

The “house style” is unapologetically English with a strong Savile Row and usually more subtle Modernist influence, by constantly seeking out innovative and luxurious cloths they also have a creative and directional finish.

Barchi Bespoke Tailor & Shirt Maker

When Simon Barchi was 20 years old and living in Marrakesh, Morocco, he went to work as a salesman for a French men’s clothing company. He fell in love with men’s fashion and decided he wanted to create exquisite men’s clothing one day. It was then that Simon decided to leave Marrakesh, come to New York and pursue a fashion career.

Once in New York, he enrolled in the Cybick School of Garment Cutting & Designing at 19 Park Avenue South. The Cybick School was one of the best schools in the country for men’s fashion designing and pattern making (the Fashion Institute of Technology being the other one).

After graduating from the Cybick School, Simon began working for top New York City custom tailors. This was where he honed his pattern making, cutting, constructing jackets and trouser skills. These Master Tailors taught him to do all the work by hand. He learned the fine art of “Bespoke” custom tailoring. Simon became a Master Tailor himself. His custom-tailored suits are made entirely by hand on the premises in his Manhattan store.

In the late 1980’s, Barchi decided it was time to venture out and open his own business. Simon had the good fortune to become associated with Turnbull & Asser, the famous men’s Bespoke clothier on 57th Street. He became their Bespoke tailor for their many famous clients, including Lebron James, Jay Z, Senator Ted Kennedy and Jamie Fox. He also created suits for James Al-Fayed, one of the Turnbull & Asser owners, while at the same time running his own tailoring business. Years later, the business moved to its present location at 140 East 55 Street.

Every year, Simon makes his annual trips to the Milan and London Fashion Fairs to see the latest in men’s fashion and custom tailoring. It is in Milan and London, where he purchases new suiting and shirting fabric every year. Simon purchases “Made in Italy” silk ties and scarves, while the buttons, suit trimming and horse hair jacket canvases are from England and Italy.

For over 40 years, he has been designing and tailoring Bespoke custom clothing for men in business, entertainment, medicine and finance. You are invited to visit Barchi Bespoke Tailor & Shirt Maker, where you can see his fine Bespoke suits in the making.
