What is your desired price point?  There are different levels of custom-made suits in terms of construction quality.  You can always buy an off-the-rack suit and get it altered but that could be a bad investment depending on your body type.

(*Disclaimer: Don’t worry, while I am a founder of a custom suit company I won’t provide post any biased reviews – always happy to answer anything else offline, just send me a message)

Below $500?

  • It will be hard to find any local tailors that make custom suits below the $500 mark.  However, keep a lookout for travelling tailors (from Asia) as they usually can provide good value for a reasonable price – they usually set up shop in a hotel room for a couple of days where you pick your suit, get measured, and they ship it to you in 6-10 weeks.  Just keep in mind that the good deals may come in bulk, so it may only cost below $500 on a per-product basis, but you’ll be spending more.
  • I am the founder of an online custom clothing company based in NYC but since we are getting started, we are only making local sales in NYC.  Our suits start at $450.  You can always contact me for more info but I won’t say more than that because it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to pitch here.
  • You can always look for sample sales or warehouse sales to buy suits and get them altered – though depending on the amount of alterations, this can add up.

  • MySuit NY – has 3 locations in Manhattan (Herald Sq, Midtown East, and Wall St).  Process is to take base measurements and alter it according to your body.  Starts at $495.  Made in Mexico.
  • Imparali Tailors – this is one of the better kept secrets in NYC (Midtown 5th Ave)  Prices start at $700.  Made in Hong Kong.
  • Astor & Black – have representatives in NYC (no stores).  They start around $500 but most of their stuff sells $800+.  Also offer many packages.  Made in Hong Kong.

  • Michael Andrews – popular custom clothier and well-known in NYC (NYU / NOHO).  Made in Hong Kong and USA.
  • Lord Willy’s – also popular and well-known (SOHO).  I think their price points start at $1,000 – I actually just tried to call and ask but they don’t open until 12PM.
  • Duncan Quinn – very high end ($4,000+ for full bespoke) (SOHO).

These are the ones off the top of my head – I’m sure there are other local tailors.  Good luck!

I have used Rock Tailor since business school. He travels around the country and is in NY, SF, Palo Alto etc at least once every couple of months. You can go to him to get measured, he gets the suits made in Hong Kong and mails them to you. All alterations etc are free. He is great. http://rocktailor.com/

Mr. Ned’s (http://mrnednyc.com/) has good reviews – see discussion on StyleForum (http://www.styleforum.net/showth…).

it’s not quite bespoke, but the Barney’s Warehouse sale is coming to Chelsea quite soon, and they always have a great selection of men’s suits.  Brands like Armani, Boss, Hickey Freeman, etc. are up to 70% off — one of my friends picked out a $1500 Hickey suit for $500 at the last sale in August — and they will refer you to a Barney’s-recommended tailor who can help alter the suits to your measurements once you make a choice.

Best and cheapest are two totally different things.

For made to measure suits, check out MySuit and Astor & Black.   Mr. Neds is good too.  Good luck.

Ravis Custom Tailors

You can meet Master Tailors from Ravis Custom Tailor  , in New York for a very good quality, reasonably priced (not the cheapest) tailored suit. We have our Road Show in New York every 3 months and exhibit 1000s of different fabric and color. You can have a personal consultation, discuss on the styles and choose the fabric/color. Once you have your garments are completed, the paper patters and sizes are saved in your online account for future use.
I hope this helps!

I don’t know about cheapest but I went to Seize Sur Vignt when I was gonna get married and they do completely bespoke at absolute top quality for prices you could easily pay for off the rack higher end brands. Would recommend them very highly, nice people too: http://16sur20.com/

I am not sure of the cheapest, but it is economical. Miguel’s, I am talking about. Check the countless styles out there, and you will be amazed by the range and collection. I have been buying suits from them since 2 years now, and have never found a better place to irrigate my love for hand-stitched wear. You must check out the website Men’s Wear Custom Tailored Suits & Shirts in USA and see if it works for you.

For the best and more reasonable tailored suit, you should check out Savile Row Society. My father used their services and had a great experience, so I contacted with them for my most recent suit purchase and was equally as pleased.  It took about 5 weeks for my suit to arrive, and I was not disappointed. The suit fit perfectly and for a high quality, custom garment, I spent around $1,595.
I would highly recommend Savile Row Society, and will be returning there for all of my custom wear needs.

Depends on your style. Rocco at Primo Coat Factory in Queens is good and has a variety of silhouettes to choose from.
