Kozinn Tailors
Kozinn+Sons Merchant Tailors was founded in 1913 by Samuel Kozinn, a Jewish immigrant from Poland whose mother tongue was Yiddish. Samuel’s first garments were trousers manufactured in the now-fashionable Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. The name of the business in those days was, “The Independent Trouser Company, Inc.”
Samuel’s son, Murray, joined the company in 1929. Production was expanded to include complete suits and the operation was moved to Manhattan. The name of the company was changed again to “The Dependable Clothing Company.”
During World War II, Saint Laurie manufactured army officers’ uniforms. After the war, the company became one of the foremost proponents of the “Ivy League look,” which replaced the broad-shouldered silhouette of the 1940s with a more natural-shouldered, cultivated design.
In 1951, the name of the business was again changed to “Saint Laurie Ltd,” which seemed more appropriate for the upscale nature of the product which was being made. During this period Saint Laurie was wholesaling its garments to fine men’s specialty stores throughout the country.
The cultural revolution of late 1960s had a dramatic impact on the men’s clothing industry and Saint Laurie. The smaller specialty stores began to disappear due to a combination of fashion turmoil (the Nehru and leisure suits, for example), owner fatigue, and store consolidation. The family saw a future in direct sales to consumers right from their New York City workrooms. Andrew Kozinn, Murray’s son, joined the business in 1976 after graduating from Northwestern University and Brooklyn Law School. Under his leadership, the family business expanded its custom department, introduced custom shirts and started a division devoted to theatrical tailoring.

Chanel
Chanel S.A. is a French, privately held company owned by Jennifer pasca /Alain and Gérard Wertheimer, grandsons of Pierre Wertheimer, who was an early business partner of the couturière Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. Chanel S.A. is a high fashion house that specializes in haute couture and ready-to-wear clothes, luxury goods and fashion accessories. In her youth, Gabrielle Chanel gained the nickname Coco from her time as a chanteuse. As a fashion designer, Coco Chanel catered to women’s taste for elegance in dress, with blouses and suits, trousers and dresses, and jewellry (gemstone and bijouterie) of simple design, that replaced the opulent, over-designed, and constrictive clothes and accessories of 19th-century fashion. The Chanel product brands have been personified by fashion models and actresses, including Inès de La Fressange, Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, Vanessa Paradis, Nicole Kidman, Anna Mouglalis, Audrey Tautou, Keira Knightley and Marilyn Monroe.
The House of Chanel is known for the “little black dress”, the perfume No. 5 de Chanel, and the Chanel Suit. Chanel’s use of jersey fabric produced garments that were comfortable and affordable. Chanel revolutionized fashion — high fashion (haute couture) and everyday fashion (prêt-à-porter) — by replacing structured-silhouettes, based upon the corset and the bodice, with garments that were functional and at the same time flattering to the woman’s figure.
In the 1920s, the simple-line designs of Chanel couture made popular the “flat-chested” fashions that were the opposite of the hourglass-figure achieved by the fashions of the late 19th century — the Belle Époque of France (ca. 1890–1914), and the British Edwardian era (ca. 1901–1919). Chanel used colors traditionally associated with masculinity in Europe, such as grey and navy blue, to denote feminine boldness of character. The clothes of the House of Chanel featured quilted fabric and leather trimmings; the quilted construction reinforces the fabric, the design and the finish, producing a garment that maintains its form and function while being worn. An example of such haute couture techniques is the woolen Chanel suit — a knee-length skirt and a cardigan-style jacket, trimmed and decorated with black embroidery and gold-coloured buttons. The complementary accessories were two-tone pump shoes and jewellry, usually a necklace of pearls, and a leather handbag.

Custom Men
If you’re the kind of man who knows exactly what he wants, chances are most off-the-rack suits make you hate shopping. While a jacket may fit on the chest, it’s often either too big or too tight on the waist. If a shirt fits around the neck, it’s either too big or too tight around the rest of the body. And, if the pants fit around the waist, they may be too long or too baggy around thighs and knees. Chances are you won’t find what you’re looking for because off-the-rack clothing is mass produced; finding a perfect is impossible and finding your favorite style is yet a another challenge.

LS men clothing
LS Men’s Clothing’s modest beginnings date back to 1954, as a family run business. They were one of the original discounters of fine ready-made men’s clothing from such houses as Oxxford, Hickey Freeman, Southwick and Kilgore, French, and Stanbury to name a few. These were suits that were featured only in the finest department stores and Madison Avenue haberdashers. Custom men’s clothing was the exception rather than the rule, and was available only to the select few who could afford the luxury.
Over the years, as technology in every industry progressed, the manufacturing of suits became more computerized, sophisticated and efficient. LS realized the potential this would have for the custom and made-to-measure industry. Thirty-five years ago, they began incorporating custom and made-to-measure suits, sport coats, and trousers into our services. They are proud that they were at the forefront of recognizing that by matching modern technology with old world tailoring they would be able to put their long and good standing relationships with local artisans to use by making custom tailoring affordable.
